Introduction and Background

The RMP is maintained throughout the product’s lifecycle (post-authorisation) and updated with new safety information.

US Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS): Authorized by the FDA Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA), REMS are required only when the FDA deems them necessary for a marketed drug with serious safety concerns ([1]). Unlike the EU’s general requirement, REMS are specific to certain drugs. Importantly, the FDA must approve the REMS strategy and any modifications.
