Liability and Trust: Our earlier review showed trust is a dominant concern ([54]). Liability in case of error remains murky. Insurers and legal frameworks will have to adapt, possibly treating AI errors like medical malpractice. In the meantime, hospitals mitigate risk by requiring human sign-off and by limiting AI to decision support rather than decision-making. Establishing rigorous validation and documentation of the AI deployment process can provide legal cover and build public confidence.
Discussion of Perspectives
Clinicians
Opinions among clinicians are mixed. Many appreciate relief from paperwork: physicians in Ambient AI studies reported regained interaction time and lower stress ([27]). However, surveys also show that two-thirds of doctors worry about AI-driven decisions, fearing errors and liability ([55]). The majority are supportive of AI for administrative tasks (scheduling, documentation) but remain skeptical of its role in direct patient care.
