Intelerad Peer Review is an essential component of a comprehensive quality assurance (QA) program for radiology departments, designed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of radiologists' reports. The software is tightly integrated with the Intelerad ecosystem, primarily operating within the IntelePACS and InteleViewer diagnostic workstation, ensuring the peer review process is seamlessly incorporated into the radiologist's normal workday.
The system offers three distinct peer review workflows to suit different organizational needs and objectives:
- Assigned Workflow: Recently dictated reports are automatically assigned to a suitable reviewing radiologist, appearing in their Peer Review worklist. The Peer Review Assignment Engine (PRAE) matches reviewers based on criteria like specialty, quota objective, quota performance, and availability. This workflow is ideal for a timely, interventionist approach, facilitating a close-to-real-time feedback loop.
- Flagged Workflow: Recently relevant reports are automatically flagged for review when radiologists open orders for dictation. Peer reviews are randomized via an automated quota system to ensure an even distribution of evaluations across the entire installation. This is ideal for historical or educational evaluation of prior reports.
- Ad-Hoc Workflow: Radiologists can randomly select reports to peer review at any time, though these reviews do not automatically count toward performance objectives.
The Peer Review module utilizes the modified American College of Radiology (ACR) RADPEER system for quality assessment scoring. Key capabilities include the ability to set quotas to ensure each physician, site, modality, or body part receives an appropriate number of reviews, and the automatic sending of email notifications for discrepant reviews. The system is designed to enhance collaboration and ultimately improve patient care by providing structured and systematic feedback.
