The NCCN Chemotherapy Order Templates (NCCN Templates®) are a proprietary, licensed database of evidence-based treatment protocols developed by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). Derived directly from the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) and the NCCN Drugs & Biologics Compendium (NCCN Compendium®), the templates are designed to be integrated, mapped, and referenced within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for institutional use.
The primary goal of the NCCN Templates is to enhance patient safety by empowering healthcare providers to standardize patient care, reduce medication errors, and anticipate and manage adverse events. The templates include comprehensive information for a wide range of cancer types, covering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, supportive care agents, monitoring parameters, and safety instructions. They also provide special instructions for self-administered chemotherapeutic agents.
Key Capabilities and Integration: The core value proposition is seamless integration into major oncology EHR systems, including Epic Beacon, Cerner PowerChart Oncology™, Flatiron Health OncoEMR®, and MEDITECH Web EHR. The content is delivered in a database format, which has been updated from PDF to HTML for a more seamless view and allows content to be copied and pasted for efficient integration. Users can search the template database by regimen name, cancer type, and individual drug agent. The templates also incorporate cost information (as part of NCCN Evidence Blocks) to help with treatment decisions.
Target Users: Oncology clinicians, including physicians, pharmacists, and nurses, within hospitals and cancer centers that utilize integrated EHR systems. The templates are developed and maintained by the NCCN Templates Committee, comprised of experts from NCCN Member Institutions.
