CRISP Shared Services

CRISP Shared Services (CSS) is a nonprofit health information technology organization that provides shared infrastructure, technology, and strategic services to state-designated Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) across the United States. It functions as a central 'Health Data Utility,' enabling the secure exchange of clinical data between disparate health systems to improve patient care, public health monitoring, and clinical research coordination. The organization manages the technical foundation for multiple jurisdictions, including Maryland, the District of Columbia, West Virginia, Connecticut, Virginia, and Alaska. By leveraging reusable technology and shared economic incentives, CSS helps regional HIEs reduce operational costs while implementing advanced solutions like Master Patient Indices (MPI), clinical data repositories, and real-time encounter notification services.
