Web Plus is a core component of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) Registry Plus software suite. It is a secure, web-based application designed to facilitate the safe and efficient transmission of confidential patient data, specifically cancer case information, between reporting locations (like physicians' offices, pathology labs, and hospitals) and a central cancer registry over the public Internet.
The application supports three main functions: online abstracting, file upload and download, and follow-back efforts. The online abstracting capability is particularly suited for low-volume cancer reporters who do not use commercial software, providing a user-friendly interface to summarize medical records into an electronic report.
The file upload feature supports both North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and non-NAACCR file formats, with built-in validation using the NPCR-EDITS engine to ensure data quality and completeness.
Web Plus is provided free of charge to the public health community, primarily targeting central cancer registries funded by the NPCR.
Its security is ensured through robust features and adherence to IT best practices, including TLS/SSL encryption for data in transit, form-based authentication, password encryption (one-way hash), extensive activity logging for auditing, and configurable access controls, making it suitable for handling confidential patient data.
