TouchChat is an industry-leading Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solution developed by PRC-Saltillo. It transforms an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into a powerful speech-generating device for individuals who have difficulty using their natural voice. The app is primarily designed for individuals with conditions such as Autism, Down Syndrome, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), apraxia, stroke, or other communication impairments.
Key Features and Capabilities:
- Customizable Vocabulary: The app comes pre-loaded with a wide range of vocabulary files, including the highly popular WordPower™ suite designed by Nancy Inman, which facilitates easy and intuitive communication through word-based organization.
- Full Customization: Users can fully customize pages, grid layouts, buttons, messages, and symbols. It includes a large library of SymbolStix® symbols, and users can also add personal photos or images using the device's built-in camera.
- Multiple Access Methods: TouchChat is accessible to a wide variety of users with different physical needs. Access methods include direct touch, configurable switch scanning, and integrated head tracking (on compatible iOS devices).
- Text-to-Speech & Recorded Messages: Messages are spoken using a built-in voice synthesizer with multiple language options (English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, etc.) or by playing recorded messages.
- Data Management & Sharing: Vocabulary files can be backed up and transferred to a computer using services like Dropbox™ or Google Drive™. Generated text messages can be shared via iMessage® and email.
- iShare Service: An optional subscription service (iShareTC) is available to store custom files securely for safekeeping.
TouchChat is a robust, flexible, and intuitive AAC app that is a key component of PRC-Saltillo's communication ecosystem, which also includes dedicated, fundable speech-generating devices (like the Via series) that come pre-installed with the app.
