UC San Diego Health

UC San Diego Health is the only academic health system in the San Diego region and serves as the clinical arm of the University of California, San Diego. It is a comprehensive healthcare provider comprising three primary hospitals—Hillcrest Medical Center, Jacobs Medical Center, and East Campus Medical Center—alongside specialized centers such as the Moores Cancer Center, Shiley Eye Institute, and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. The system is recognized as a national leader in patient care, medical research, and physician training. As a premier research institution, UC San Diego Health operates the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), which facilitates hundreds of active clinical trials. The system is particularly noted for its work in oncology, regenerative medicine (via the Sanford Stem Cell Institute), and infectious diseases. It recently expanded its footprint through the acquisition of the East Campus Medical Center (formerly Alvarado Hospital) and a strategic joint powers authority with Palomar Health.
