Japan Institute for Health Security

The Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS) is a national statutory public health agency established in April 2025 through the merger of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). It serves as Japan's central hub for infectious disease intelligence, research, development, and clinical response. The institute's mission is to build a resilient and secure society by integrating infectious disease surveillance, advanced R&D (including diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines), comprehensive clinical care, and international cooperation. It acts as a primary scientific advisor to the Japanese government and collaborates with global health organizations to manage public health emergencies.
